How LTE Discovery, by Simply Advanced LLC, collects, uses, and protects your information.
Last updated: October 29, 2026
Overview
LTE Discovery turns your Android phone into a cellular signal analyzer. To do that — and to build community coverage maps — the app reads radio measurements from your device and, with your permission, the location where each measurement was taken. Contributing to the community maps is opt-in: nothing is contributed until you tap Contribute, and you can stop at any time in Settings. We collect the minimum needed to provide these features and we never sell your name, email address, account details or device identifiers.
Information we collect
- Cellular measurements. Signal metrics (RSRP, RSRQ, SINR), network generation (2G–5G), band / EARFCN / ARFCN, bandwidth, and cell identifiers (GCI, PCI, TAC, PLMN / carrier).
- Location. When you grant location permission, the approximate or precise coordinates of a measurement, so it can be placed on a map. You can revoke this permission at any time in Android settings; the app still functions, without map placement.
- Device & app info. Device make and model, Android version, and app version, used for compatibility and diagnostics. These describe the hardware and software, not you: they are not personal identifiers, are kept when data is anonymized, and are included in our de-identified data products.
- Account (optional). If you sign in with Google, your email address, your name if Google provides it, and a Google account identifier, used to associate your saved logs, app settings and contributions with your account.
- Commercial API account (optional). If you create a Coverage Intelligence organization, we store its name, billing email, accepted terms version/time, hashed API credentials, and aggregate request/usage records. Plaintext API keys are shown once and are not stored.
- Purchase / entitlement status (signed-in only). If you're signed in, the app reports what it has determined you own (e.g. Pro, an active subscription) to our server, so support can look up your purchase history and to prepare for account continuity on future platforms. This is a record, not a control — nothing reads it back to grant or restrict access; Google Play remains the actual record of your purchase. We rely on our legitimate interest in operating account support for this.
- Speed tests (optional). If you turn on speed tests in the Android app, a test measures download and upload speed, latency and jitter, and sends the result to us with the network type (Wi-Fi or cellular), concurrent cellular signal and cell information, device model, app version, the test server location, your location (only if location permission is granted) and your network operator, derived from your IP address without keeping the raw IP in that attribution. Cellular tests ask for your consent first because they use mobile data. We use results the same way as other measurements: to improve measurement quality and coverage data and, in de-identified form, in our network data products (see “How we share it”). They stay off the public coverage map until they are validated. You can also send optional feedback (a rating and, if offered, text). Speed tests are available only in selected countries, and we may limit where and to whom they are offered while we evaluate them. Country eligibility is determined from your IP address using IP geolocation from DB-IP (IP Geolocation by DB-IP). You can turn speed tests off and delete your speed test results at any time, from any country. When you delete your speed test results or your account, they are kept only in anonymized form that can no longer be associated with you. To find and fix problems, the app also sends a technical log of each test attempt, including attempts that fail, are refused or are interrupted: the steps taken, their timing, the data used, error types, the network type and the app's test settings. It never contains your location, IP address or Wi-Fi network name. These logs are kept for 90 days and are anonymized when you delete your speed test results or your account.
- Cell-site photos (Tower Scout, optional). If you sign in and take part in Tower Scout, we receive the photos you choose to upload with their capture time, your position and the direction you were pointing, and the link to your account. Before any outside AI service sees a photo, we blur people, faces and number plates and remove its location metadata; published photos are the blurred versions.
- Diagnostics. Crash reports, error logs and app usage events (for example, which screens are opened and whether a speed test completed), to keep the app stable and improve it.
How we use it
- Display real-time signal information on your device.
- Save your measurement logs so you can review them over time.
- Build aggregated, anonymized coverage maps. Map tiles are only shown when they combine readings from multiple measurements; individual readings are never shown on the public map.
- Provide, secure, meter, support, and bill for optional commercial access to Coverage Intelligence data products.
- Diagnose problems and improve the app.
How we share it
We use the measurements and speed test results people contribute to build coverage maps and other network data products, which we publish and may license to businesses. When you tap Contribute, the screen tells you that we may share or license de-identified data, now or in the future, to help improve networks, build coverage maps and study interference. If you are in the EU, EEA, UK or Switzerland, we then ask you a separate question, “Help improve mobile networks beyond our app”, with equal “Yes, allow” and “No thanks” buttons and nothing preselected. We do not license your record-level measurements unless you answer Yes. Your contribution to coverage maps continues either way, and you can change your answer in Settings. Record-level licensing is currently limited to data recorded in the United States. We never sell information that identifies you, and we never include it in the data we publish or license: your name, email address, account details, unique device identifiers (such as IMEI, serial number, MAC address or advertising ID), install identifiers, IP address or Wi-Fi network names. These identifiers are removed before any measurement or speed test data leaves LTE Discovery, and we do not collect Wi-Fi network names (SSID or BSSID) at all. We take reasonable measures to de-identify this data, including limiting the precision of location and time in record-level data we license and not publishing records from areas with only a few contributing devices. We commit not to re-identify it, and we contractually bind the businesses we license it to not to re-identify it, not to try to track or single out any person or device, and not to pass it on to restricted countries or to anyone who has not accepted the same obligations. We also share data with service providers strictly to operate the service (cloud hosting and storage, sign-in, email delivery, crash reporting, speed test servers (Cloudflare), website analytics, AI image analysis of blurred cell-site photos (Anthropic and OpenAI), and Stripe/Link for commercial billing when used), and when required by law. For Managed Payments, Link acts as merchant of record and receives billing, tax, payment, transaction-support, and subscription-management details. Speed test traffic goes to test servers operated by Cloudflare, Inc., which receives your device’s IP address and the test traffic in order to run the test; Cloudflare does not receive your cellular identifiers or location.
Cookies & website analytics
On our website (ltediscovery.app) we use Google Analytics 4 (provided by Google LLC) to understand aggregate usage — pages viewed, approximate region, referring site, and device/browser type. This uses cookies and sends data to Google, including to servers in the United States. The website sets no advertising cookies.
Analytics is governed by your consent (Google Consent Mode). Visitors in the EEA and the UK are opted out by default — no analytics cookies are set until you choose “Accept” on our cookie banner. You can change or withdraw your choice at any time via the “Cookie settings” link in the website footer. Declining analytics does not affect any app or website functionality. See Google’s Privacy Policy and the Google Analytics opt-out.
For our commercial Coverage API, we also keep a first-party record of how a business account or sales inquiry found us — the campaign tags in the link, the referring site’s domain and the landing page (no full URLs or personal details). Advertising click identifiers (e.g. from Google or LinkedIn ads) are kept only if you have accepted analytics, and are deleted after 90 days.
Data retention
Measurement logs are retained to power coverage maps and your personal history. Account information is kept until you delete your account. If you delete your account, you choose whether we keep your past measurements, with everything that connects them to you permanently removed, or delete them with the account. Older raw data is moved to cold storage and aggregated. Commercial account deletion revokes API keys and deletes the Stripe customer; transaction or tax records may be retained where law requires.
Where your data is stored
LTE Discovery is operated by Simply Advanced LLC in the United States, and the data you contribute is stored and processed on servers in the United States. Speed tests run on a global network that connects you to a nearby server, and results are then stored in the United States.
If you use LTE Discovery outside the United States, your data is transferred to the United States, which may not offer the same level of data protection as your country. The US has no single comprehensive privacy law; protections come from federal and state laws such as the California Consumer Privacy Act. By turning on data contribution or speed tests, you agree to this transfer.
We protect your data with encryption in transit, restricted access, and contractual protections with the service providers that help us run LTE Discovery. Currently, the data products we license to businesses contain only data recorded in the United States.
EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework
Our participation. Simply Advanced LLC, which operates LTE Discovery, complies with the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework (EU-U.S. DPF), the UK Extension to the EU-U.S. DPF, and the Swiss-U.S. Data Privacy Framework (Swiss-U.S. DPF) as set forth by the U.S. Department of Commerce. Simply Advanced LLC has certified to the U.S. Department of Commerce that it adheres to the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework Principles (EU-U.S. DPF Principles) with regard to the processing of personal data received from the European Union in reliance on the EU-U.S. DPF and from the United Kingdom (and Gibraltar) in reliance on the UK Extension to the EU-U.S. DPF. Simply Advanced LLC has certified to the U.S. Department of Commerce that it adheres to the Swiss-U.S. Data Privacy Framework Principles (Swiss-U.S. DPF Principles) with regard to the processing of personal data received from Switzerland in reliance on the Swiss-U.S. DPF. If there is any conflict between the terms in this privacy policy and the EU-U.S. DPF Principles and/or the Swiss-U.S. DPF Principles, the Principles shall govern. What personal data we receive and why. Under the DPF, we may receive the following personal data from people in the EU, the UK and Switzerland:
- App users: your account email address and name, if you sign in or provide them; app and install identifiers; device hardware information (make, model, Android version and app version); your app settings; and, only if you opt in, cellular measurements, speed test results and cell-site photos, together with the location where each was recorded.
- Website visitors: website usage and analytics data described in “Cookies & website analytics,” collected only after you accept analytics where consent is required.
- Business customers: contact and billing details for people at organizations that buy our data products or API access, such as name, business email address, and billing and account records.
We use this data to provide and secure the app and website, to build coverage and tower maps, to measure network performance, to improve our services, and to bill and support business customers.
Who we share it with. We share personal data with service providers that act on our behalf and only under our instructions: cloud hosting and storage, sign-in, payment processing, email delivery, website analytics, crash reporting, and AI image analysis of blurred cell-site photos. Record-level measurement and speed test data is licensed to business customers only as described in “How we share it”: it is limited to data recorded in the United States, and we remove information that identifies you, including your name, account details, and device and install identifiers. We do not sell personal data.
Our responsibility for onward transfers. Under the DPF, we remain responsible for personal data we receive and later transfer to a third party acting as an agent on our behalf. If such an agent processes personal data in a way that does not follow the DPF Principles, we remain liable unless we prove we are not responsible for the event that caused the damage.
Your right to access. You have the right to access the personal data we hold about you, and to ask us to correct, change or delete it where it is inaccurate or has been processed in violation of the DPF Principles.
Your choices. You may opt out of having your personal data (a) disclosed to a third party, other than our agents acting on our behalf, or (b) used for a purpose that is materially different from the purposes for which it was originally collected or that you later authorized. We do not collect sensitive personal data (such as health, racial or ethnic origin, political opinions, religious beliefs, trade union membership or sex life). If we ever do, we will ask for your express opt-in consent before disclosing it to a third party or using it for a new purpose.
How to use your rights. Email us at privacy@ltediscovery.app. You can also delete your account and its personal data yourself in the app (on the account screen) or on our website.
Complaints. If you have a question or complaint about how we handle your personal data under the DPF, please contact us first at privacy@ltediscovery.app. We will respond within 45 days of receiving your complaint.
Independent recourse. In compliance with the EU-U.S. DPF, the UK Extension to the EU-U.S. DPF and the Swiss-U.S. DPF, Simply Advanced LLC commits to cooperate and comply respectively with the advice of the panel established by the EU data protection authorities (DPAs), the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) and the Gibraltar Regulatory Authority (GRA), and the Swiss Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner (FDPIC) with regard to unresolved complaints concerning our handling of personal data received in reliance on the EU-U.S. DPF, the UK Extension and the Swiss-U.S. DPF. This service is provided free of charge to you. Contact details: EU data protection authorities, UK ICO, Gibraltar Regulatory Authority and Swiss FDPIC.
Enforcement. Simply Advanced LLC is subject to the investigatory and enforcement powers of the U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC).
Binding arbitration. Under certain conditions, you may be able to invoke binding arbitration for complaints about our DPF compliance that are not resolved by any of the other DPF mechanisms. For more information, see Annex I of the DPF Principles.
Requests from public authorities. We may be required to disclose personal data in response to lawful requests by public authorities, including to meet national security or law enforcement requirements.
Your rights & choices
- Revoke location or other permissions anytime in Android settings.
- Manage website analytics cookies anytime via the “Cookie settings” link in the footer (EEA/UK visitors start opted out until they accept).
- Request access to, or deletion of, your account and associated data (GDPR / CCPA). In the app, use the account screen's delete option, or email us. When you delete your account or ask us to erase your data, we delete your account information and you choose one of two options. Option A: we unlink your signal data and keep it, de-identified, to help improve coverage maps; we permanently remove everything that connects it to you. Option B: we delete your account and all measurements you contributed, including speed test results and other copies we hold; coverage maps are rebuilt on our next scheduled runs and physical removal from our database completes through background merges. If you ask by email or through our representative without saying which option you want, we treat it as Option B (full deletion) unless you tell us otherwise.
Children
LTE Discovery is intended for people 18 and older. It is not directed to anyone under 18, we do not knowingly collect personal information from them, and contributors must confirm that they are 18 or older. If a parent or guardian believes a minor has contributed data, please contact us so we can remove it.
